The Farmers' Day is one of the many extension activities organized by the college periodically and the recent one held at the Agriculture Experiment Station (AES) on 03 February 2003, proved how effective and useful the activity is.His Excellency, Sheikh Salim Al Khalili, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, inaugurated the daylong activities by cutting the ceremonial ribbon.Earlier, welcoming the gathering, His Excellency, Dr Saud Al Riyami, SQU President, said "Agriculture plays a vital role in the social and economic life of any country and its citizens. For this very reason the CAMS was established to produce graduates in this sectors. The college has been serving the society by providing practical and scientific guidelines and consultancy services in different majors through its different departments. Through this event, we are aiming to create an environment where the academic staff could meet with farmers from across the country and share the latest information in the agricultural sector with them and guide themselves in their research efforts for a better livestock and agricultural future."More than 300 farmers from many parts of the country had assembled at AES. The farmers were divided into five groups and taken on a tour of the station to show the field demonstrations in animal health, nutrition and reproductive technology, machinery operation and maintenance, crop production, soil and water management and a tour of the R&D lab.Summarized from "The University News Bulletin", No. 57/February 2003 |
